Dr. Debashri Sarkar has graduated from the National Law Institute University Bhopal and has completed her LL.M and Ph.D from the University of Delhi. She was awarded the UGC Junior as well as Senior Research Fellowship. Her subject for Doctoral Studies was Commercial Surrogacy: Examining the medico-legal intersections. She started her journey as a teacher from the Gujarat National Law Institute University. She teaches diverse papers like personal laws, gender studies, international law, statutory interpretation and sports law.

In addition to the above, her research interests include sexuality and the law, laws pertaining to adoption and health laws. She has published in various journals and is also actively involved in promoting awareness in matters concerning domestic violence, prevention of sexual harassment at workplace and other human rights issues.
